CHAPTER TEN

Sienna couldn’t help but be impressed with the star power. Ben Masters was far from his prime but he was still one of the best known film stars in the world, his boyish good looks slightly worn with age but still electrifying close up. He had booked the Heston Blumenthal restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental on Park Lane. Discreet and expensive, Sienna could see why he liked it. The waiters were used to the rich and powerful, and knew how to pander to them, but even so she noticed how a few heads turned as he walked across the room to the quiet table they had been allocated to at the back of the restaurant. She kissed him on both cheeks, letting her lips linger slightly, then glanced around the room to check that no one was looking at him anymore before sitting down again.

“I knew you couldn’t resist me forever,” said Ben, ordering dover sole off the menu for both of them, and selecting an expensive wine to go with it.

Sienna lent forward. “Can I tell you a secret?”

She was wearing a mid-length black leather skirt, and a crisp white blouse, with a black-push up bra underneath it, and a string of pearls that ran directly across her exposed cleavage.

“Of course,” said Ben, his eyes flicking towards her breasts.

“I wanted you from the moment I saw Bridesmaid’s II on a flight from San Francisco.”

“Really? Oh gosh. It must have been the scene where I get caught kissing that total babe from the vampire movies and she realises it is me that she has wanted all along but we could never quite find the right words to express our emotions.”

Sienna nodded. “It was that scene in particular.”

“A personal favourite if I may say, although I am not sure the critics agreed.”

Sienna took a sip of the excellent white wine. “Sod the critics,” she said. Can I tell you something?”

Ben nodded.

“I was so turned on by that moment I had to go to the toilets, and, well, you know…if I was to get any sleep on the rest of the flight.”

“Really?”

“Absolutely.”

Ben ran his hands through his hair. “And, er, did you sleep well after that.”

“Like a baby lamb.”

“Pleased to have been of service,” said Ben. “Next time I am doing a scene like that I will be thinking specifically of you, and all the other ladies who might need some help getting some proper rest on an intercontinental flight.”

“Well, thank you.”

The rest of the meal passed in a blur. Ben talked about himself throughout the meal, which, reflected Sienna, made conversation at least effortless, if a little one-sided, and his stories were at least amusing. There was a well-known actress who always fluffed her lines; another who bought her cat with her to to set; a famously demanding director who turned out to have only read the script the night before shooting started; and the old Shaespearean ham who refused to be filmed in close up anymore because he felt his skin was past its prime.
